Bus shelters, stops, ownership and positioning

Confusingly, there are several different bodies who might be responsible for bus stops and shelters.

Ownership

- Wiltshire County Council is responsible for all bus shelters along the inter-urban bus routes as part of their Key Bus Route Network Project. The aim of this project is to make bus travel an attractive alternative to the private car.   With the exception of those in Avebury the new bus shelters are usually painted blue.

- Bus shelters which are not owned by WCC are usually owned and maintained by the Parish or Town councils.  Some might have been erected by WCC but handed back to the local council for maintenance.

- Adshel is a company that owns and maintains some shelters with advertising displays around the County.

- Bus stop flags can be owned by WCC or by the local bus operator.  Ownership can be identified by the logo.
