Help with costs for travel to health care (HTCS) and other entitlements

Patients on low income, in receipt of benefits or on special allowances are entitled to help with travel costs to any provider of treatment or tests where patients are referred by an NHS doctor or NHS specialist.

Each hospital and provider of health services referred to by a NHS doctor or dentist determines its own rate of compensation. For guidance and information about Healthcare Transport Claim Scheme click here

Procedure:
If a patient is on benefits you can claim from the hospital cashier on the day of treatment.  It is also possible to claim retrospectively for 3 months' previous travel.  Form HCI is for those on low income who might qualify for all or some travel costs.  HC1 forms are available from opticians, hospital, dentist, or Jobcentre Plus.

Further information available from individual hospital websites.  The information is not always comprehensive.  Please check with local booking clerk or cashier if in doubt:
